Testing has included new machines and new components up and down the grid and the Misano test is no different with a modified fairing on the Yamaha

Testing provides teams the perfect opportunity to try new components on their machine to give them the best chance of claiming victory in the MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship and the two-day test at the Misano World Circuit “Marco Simoncelli” has been no different. In the gallery at the top of the article, you can view the best pictures of the modified fairing attached to the Yamaha YZF R1 machine which includes a new design of the air intake as Yamaha looks to challenge for both Riders’ and Manufacturers’ Championships in 2021.

Following the test, there was plenty to be said about the fairing. Toprak Razgatlioglu’s crew chief, Phil Marron, gave his thoughts on it: “We had a new fairing and there were mixed comments on it. Hopefully, at Catalunya, we will be able to re-test, re-evaluate and confirm that it will be ready to race at Round 1.

Andrew Pitt, crew chief to Andrea Locatelli, commented on its purpose: “The most obvious change is the fairing. It protects the riders a little bit more from the wind, and we hope that means they can stay in the slipstream of the other bikes. That’s the most obvious visual change on the bike.”

Yamaha Motor Europe Road Racing manager, Andrea Dosoli, also explained the importance of it: “Any small detail can make the difference in WorldSBK; so, our engineers in our racing department in Japan have been working hard in order to improve those small details, with some simulation and some real tests in the wind tunnel. This is the first time we’ve tested it on the track, so we are discovering the new items.”
